I have had this bottle for several months and we have just now caught up sufficiently to taste it. Lucky Seven Spirits was founded by Michael Lahalih and John Pals, who had been friends since their college days. They both love Bourbon and cinema, thus the name “Lucky Seven,” which comes from the Stage 7 in Hollywood. The stage produced many award-winning films and gained the name Lucky Seven. They source some very good barrels and bottle the Bourbon under this brand. (Editor’s note: blending and bottling is done by The Blending House.) I purchased this bottle back in March because it looked interesting. Matt and I sat down to taste it the other day and here are our tasting notes.

Lucky Seven Toasted Barrel Double Oak Bourbon – The Holiday Toast

Proof: 115

Age: No Age Statement

Nose:

  • Mike: Vanilla, pears, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and oak wood.
  • Matt: Vanilla, marshmallows, cedar and oak woods.

Taste:

  • Mike: Vanilla, pears, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the vanilla becomes a rich caramel. Tasted with a pecan and it becomes spicy with caramel, black pepper and oak wood.
  • Matt: Vanilla, marshmallows, lemon cream pie and oak wood. The dried cranberry brought out blackberry in the taste. The pecan brought out vanilla latte coffee, nutmeg and white pepper.

Finish:

  • Mike: Medium long with oak wood and baking spices. The dried cranberry made the finish longer. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak wood and black pepper.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak and white pepper. The dried cranberry made the finish longer. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak wood, white pepper and nutmeg.

I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that is rich in vanilla and rich tobacco in the smoke. I would reach for a My Father Le Opulencia cigar.
