Wooler Brands LLC was founded in 2018 by Jason Peter Wooler and his sons Chuck and Patrick in Lodi, California. The whiskey was made in Bardstown, Kentucky and aged for five or more years in number three charred barrels. It has a mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye, 5% wheat and 5% malted barley. I was recently sent a bottle for review and Matt and I sat down to taste it the other day. Here are our tasting notes.
Wooler Bourbon
Proof: 90
Age: Five Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, apricots, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Cereal grains, caramel, raspberries and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, orange zest, apricots, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and black pepper spice comes forward. Tasted with a pecan and caramel and black pepper come out.
- Matt: Caramel, raspberry, anise, black pepper and oak wood. The dried cranberry enhanced the pepper. The pecan added lemon zest to the flavor.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, cinnamon and orange zest. The dried cranberry made the finish spicy with a lot of black pepper. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, caramel and black pepper.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and black pepper. The dried cranberry added lingering caramel. The pecan added lingering lemon zest.
I would pair this Bourbon with a My Father Blue cigar. I think the dried fruit and vanilla in the smoke would pair well with the vanilla and fruit in the Bourbon.
