Truce Bourbon was founded by Thomas C. Smith, a direct descendant of “Devil Anse” Hatfield of the famous Hatfield and McCoy feud. The brand celebrates not the feud, but the truce that ended the feud, and the families are living a peaceful, co-existence together today and are known to share a good Bourbon together. They source the Bourbon from a Tennessee distillery. I was given a bottle by Thomas about a month ago when he came by for a drink on the porch. Matt and I have been behind on our tastings, so we just now got around to tasting it. Here are our tasting notes.
Truce Legacy Bourbon Whiskey
Proof: 90
Age: Nine Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, marshmallows, apples, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, cotton candy, corn, cinnamon and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, apples, citrus, cardamom and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and ginger and pepper spice come forward. Tasted with a pecan and the vanilla is joined by a rich caramel and allspice.
- Matt: Vanilla, powdered sugar, cinnamon, cardamom and oak wood. The dried cranberry added a note of orange zest. The pecan added caramel and enhanced the cardamom.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood and cardamom. The dried cranberry added ginger and pepper spice to the finish. The pecan made the finish long and sweet with oak wood and caramel.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and cardamom. The dried cranberry added lingering orange zest. The pecan added cinnamon to the finish.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has cedar spice and tobacco in the smoke. I would reach for a NUB Habano cigar.
