Reservoir Distillery was founded in 2008 in Richmond, Virginia. It was founded by Dave Cuttino and their head distiller is Mary Allison. Their Bourbon is a 100% corn mash bill. They sent me a sample bottle a while back and Matt and I sat down to taste it. Here are our tasting notes.

Reservoir Bourbon

Proof: 100

Age: Two Years Old

Nose:

  • Mike: Vanilla, marshmallows, a hint of fruit and oak wood.
  • Matt: Caramel, cardamom, nutmeg, leather and oak wood.

Taste:

  • Mike: Vanilla, apples, pears, white pepper and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and a rich French vanilla, wild berries and allspice come out in the taste. Tasted with a pecan and the oak wood and white pepper are enhanced and a citrus note comes out.
  • Matt: Caramel, cardamom, leather and oak wood. The dried cranberry enhanced the caramel. The pecan brought out a note of dark chocolate.

Finish:

  • Mike: Medium long with oak wood and white pepper. The dried cranberry turned the pepper to an allspice. The pecan made the finish long with lots of oak wood and white pepper.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak wood, leather and cardamom spice. The dried cranberry made the finish sweeter with oak wood, leather and lingering caramel. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood and dark chocolate.

I would pair this Bourbon with a NUB Maduro cigar. I think the rich tobacco and vanilla notes in the smoke would pair well with the vanilla in the Bourbon.
