I like the whiskeys that Ted Huber is distilling in Starlight, Indiana. He is a very talented distiller. This cigar blend is no exception. I tasted it at a BARDS meeting a few weeks ago and really liked the Bourbon. Matt and I sat down and tasted it the other day and here are our tasting notes.
Starlight Cigar Blend Bourbon Finished in Amburana Barrels
Proof: 106
Age: Five Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, tobacco, pears, pepper and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, cinnamon, ginger and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, tobacco, pears, raspberries, white pepper and oak wood, Tasted with a dried cranberry and the vanilla and raspberry are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and the vanilla is enhanced and caramel comes forward with black pepper.
- Matt: Caramel, hazelnuts, cardamom and oak wood. The dried cranberry added cinnamon and lemon zest. The pecan enhanced the caramel and hazelnut.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, tobacco, and pear. The dried cranberry made the finish long with lingering raspberry. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak wood and black pepper.
- Matt: medium long with oak wood and hazelnut. The dried cranberry added cinnamon spice to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, hazelnut and lingering caramel.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has rich vanilla and tobacco in the smoke. I would reach for a Wiseman cigar.
