I love to see a Bourbon that can only be found in Kentucky. When visitors come to Louisville and ask me what they should take home with them, I always recommend the Heaven Hill 6yo Bottled-in-Bond. It is an inexpensive Bourbon but tastes better than many that cost two or even three times its cost.

Heaven Hill 6yo Bonded

Proof: 100

Age: 6 years old

Nose: Caramel and leather with a hint of fruit and spice

Taste: Green apples, caramel and pepper spice. The oak is well balanced with dry tannins and pecan nut sweetness. When tasted with a dry cranberry the tannins are minimalized and fruit is enhanced. A pecan will enhance the caramel and wood tannins.

Finish: Long with a spicy dry oak finish that is very pleasant. With cranberries the finish is less spicy and more oak. A pecan makes the finish more spicy.

Notes: This Bourbon goes well neat paired with a cigar (Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Maduro is what I am having now) but also very nice with fresh fruit, chocolate and a dry cheese. It is also inexpensive enough that you can take it to a party and not worry if people use it in a cocktail or a highball.

Heaven Hill makes some excellent Bourbons at every price range. The next time you are in Kentucky, be sure to pick up a bottle of this fine Bourbon. You will not regret it.
