The other day, we were out at Oxmoor Farm for a BARDS (Bourbon And Rye Drinkers Society) meeting, and I picked up a bottle of their single barrel Bourbon. It is a very good bottle and Matt and I sat down to taste it the other day. Here are our tasting notes.

Oxmoor Single Barrel Bourbon

Proof: 119.6

Age: Eight Years Old

Nose:

  • Mike: Caramel, vanilla, blackberries, baking spices and oak wood.
  • Matt: Vanilla, orange blossoms, raspberries, oak wood.

Taste:

  • Mike: Caramel, vanilla, blackberries, raspberries, cinnamon and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and sweet marshmallow comes forth. Tasted with a pecan the caramel and cinnamon are enhanced and a note of chocolate comes out.
  • Matt: Vanilla, orange, raspberries, ginger and oak wood. The dried cranberry made the orange a tangerine. The pecan brought out chocolate and mint flavors.

Finish:

  • Mike: Medium long with oak, cinnamon and lingering wild berry. The dried cranberry added lingering vanilla. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood and red hot cinnamon candy.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak wood and vanilla. The dried cranberry added ginger to the finish. The pecan added lingering chocolate to the finish.

I would pair this fine Bourbon with a My Father The Judge cigar. I think the rich vanilla and chocolate in the smoke would pair well with the vanilla and caramel in the Bourbon.
