This is the latest product produced at the Woodford Reserve Distillery. It is their highest proof of any Bourbon that they have released at 139.4 proof. They recently sent me a sample bottle and Matt and I sat down and tasted it. Here are our tasting notes.

Woodford Reserve Chocolate Whisper Redux

Proof: 139.4

Age: No Age Statement

Nose:

  • Mike: Chocolate, caramel, apples, pears, baking spices and oak wood.
  • Matt: Caramel, lemon zest, cinnamon and oak wood.

Taste:

  • Mike: Chocolate, caramel, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the apple and cinnamon are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and the chocolate and oak are enhanced.
  • Matt: Caramel, leather and oak wood. The dried cranberry added a note of honey. The pecan added a note of peanut butter.

Finish:

  • Mike: Long with oak wood, chocolate and cinnamon. The dried cranberry enhanced the cinnamon in the finish. The pecan made the finish long and dry with lots of oak wood and chocolate.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak and caramel. The dried cranberry added a leather note to the finish. The pecan made the finish longer with lots of oak and caramel.

I would pair this Bourbon with a My Father the Judge cigar. I think the chocolate and vanilla in the smoke would pair well with the chocolate and caramel in the whiskey.
