Stetson Bourbon is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey named for John B. Stetson, the creator of the Stetson hat in 1860. It is a sourced whiskey blended by Dan Callaway. They recently sent me a bottle and Matt and I sat down and tasted it. Here are our tasting notes.

Stetson Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Proof: 100

Age: No Age Statement

Nose:

  • Mike: Vanilla, marshmallows, apricots, nutmeg and oak wood.
  • Matt: Caramel, chocolate, raspberries and oak wood.

Taste:

  • Mike: Vanilla, apricots, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and black pepper comes forward. Tasted with a pecan and notes of chocolate and red pepper flakes come out to join the party.
  • Matt: Chocolate, ginger and oak wood. The dried cranberry added caramel and blackberries to the flavor. The pecan added red pepper flakes to the flavor.

Finish: 

  • Mike: Medium long with oak wood and cinnamon. The dried cranberry made the finish long with oak wood and black pepper. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, red pepper flakes and lingering chocolate.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak wood and tobacco. The dried cranberry made it spicy with oak wood and red pepper flakes. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak wood and red pepper flakes.

I would pair this Bourbon whiskey with a cigar that has a lot of vanilla and chocolate is the smoke. I would reach for a My Father The Judge cigar.
