Short Barrel Bourbon was created by Adam Dorfman, Clinton Dugan and Patrick Lemmonond in 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2020, they sourced some Bourbon and created the Short Barrel Brand. In 2023, they purchased the Old Fourth Distillery in Atlanta, Georgia and rebuilt the distillery with the goal to revive Georgia whiskey. They have created an interesting Bourbon and I picked up a bottle of their whiskey the other day and Matt and I sat down to taste it. Here are our tasting notes.

Short Barrel Four Grain Bourbon

Proof: 92

Age: Four Years Old

Nose:

  • Mike: Vanilla, pears, baking spices and oak wood.
  • Matt: Rye grass, raisins, vanilla and oak wood.

Taste:

  • Mike: Vanilla, pears, cinnamon and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and cherry and blackberry notes come out in the taste. Tasted with a pecan and caramel and pepper come out in the taste.
  • Matt: Vanilla, rye grass, raisins, citrus and oak wood. The dried cranberry added lemon zest and white pepper. The pecan added caramel.

Finish:

  • Mike: Medium long with oak wood and cinnamon. The dried cranberry added lingering blackberry. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood and pepper.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak wood and cardamom. The dried cranberry added white pepper. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, caramel and white pepper.

I would pair this Bourbon with a NUB Maduro cigar. I think the vanilla and tobacco notes in the smoke would pair well with the vanilla and spice in the Bourbon.
