I like the Bourbon Jeptha Creed is distilling. Joyce Nethery is a talented distiller and they are a farm to bottle distillery. They usually make their Bourbon with Bloody Butcher red corn, but this is a Bourbon made with blue corn. This is their newest product and it is a very good whiskey. I picked up a bottle the other day and Matt and I sat down to taste it. Here are our tasting notes.
Jeptha Creed Bruce’s Blue Bourbon
Proof: 100
Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, corn, banana, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, Honey Nut Cheerios, cherries, baking spices and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, corn, orange zest, cardamom, and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the vanilla is enhanced and cinnamon comes out. Tasted with a pecan and caramel comes out with vanilla, orange zest and cinnamon.
- Matt: Vanilla, cherry cola, red pepper and oak wood. The dried cranberry added lemon zest. The pecan added caramel, chocolate cake and red pepper.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, orange zest and cardamom. The dried cranberry added cinnamon to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, cinnamon and lingering caramel.
- Matt: Medium long with oak and red pepper. The dried cranberry added lemon zest. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, chocolate and red pepper.
I would pair this fine Bourbon with a My Father The Judge cigar. I think the rich vanilla and chocolate in the smoke would enhance the vanilla and chocolate in the Bourbon.
