We like the Jeptha Creed Red, White and Blue Bourbon. The first release was our “Whiskey of the Month” back in February 2023. This Bourbon is made with red, white and blue heirloom varieties of corn. Joyce Nethery has made a Bourbon with a unique flavor profile that comes from using these corns. When they released this batch and sent me a bottle, we were looking forward to tasting it. It did not get our whiskey of the month but that was because of the extraordinary competition in recent months. It is an excellent Bourbon. Matt and I sat down to taste it the other day and here are our tasting notes.

Jeptha Creed Red, White, and Blue Bourbon

Proof: 100

Age: Four Years Old

Nose:

  • Mike: Vanilla, apples, baking spices and oak wood.
  • Matt: Caramel, marshmallows, brown sugar, corn, nutmeg and oak wood.

Taste:

  • Mike: Vanilla, corn, apples, nutmeg, ginger and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and cinnamon and citrus come out in the flavor. Tasted with a pecan and the oak is enhanced and a chocolate note comes forward.
  • Matt: Caramel, brown sugar, blackberries, nutmeg and oak wood. The dried cranberry added a citrus note to the flavor. The pecan added cinnamon and chocolate to the flavor.

Finish:

  • Mike: Medium long with oak wood and vanilla.  The dried cranberry added citrus and cinnamon to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, chocolate and cinnamon.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak wood and brown sugar. The dried cranberry added lingering blackberry notes. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood and cinnamon.

I would pair this fine Bourbon with a My Father The Judge cigar. I think the vanilla and chocolate in the smoke would enhance the vanilla and chocolate in the Bourbon.
