I Bourbon is produced by Triple I, LLC’s founder, Tripp Whitbeck. He has sourced Bourbons from Tennessee that are 13, 6, and 5 years old and blended them together to create this whiskey. He contacted me several weeks ago and wanted to know if I had ever had his Bourbon. I told him I had not and he sent me a bottle for review. My only complaint about the Bourbon is the label. It does not make the brand name very clear and does not give as much information as his website. Matt and I sat down and tasted it the other day and here are our tasting notes.
I Bourbon
Proof: 86
Age: No Age Statement, but the website states it is a blend of 13, 6, and 5 Year Old Bourbon.
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, raisins, lemon zest, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, raisins, orange blossoms and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, raisins, lemon zest, cardamom and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the lemon zest and cardamom spice are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and caramel and butterscotch come forward.
- Matt: Vanilla, dates and orange blossoms. The dried cranberry enhanced the vanilla and added orange zest. The pecan brought out a rich vanilla, cherries and dates.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, cardamom and lingering lemon zest. The dried cranberry made it spicy with lots of cardamom spice. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, cardamom and lingering caramel.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and dates. The dried cranberry added a floral note of orange blossoms to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood and lingering vanilla.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has a lot of vanilla and spice in the smoke. I would reach for a Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial cigar.
