Rosemary and I finally got to go to the Bar at Fort Nelson on her birthday. We had planned on going for the fall\winter cocktails back in November, but circumstances prevented this from happening. So the other day, we made reservations for her birthday and went down to the bar to check out the menu.

We focused on the modern whiskey cocktails. I started by ordering the Golden Hour, a cocktail served warm made with Michter’s Sour Mash Whiskey, chai, turmeric, espresso, coconut and oak milk. It was very good and tasted like a comforting chai tea with a kick. Very nice on a cold day. Rosemary ordered The Queen of Hearts made with Michter’s Bourbon, Foro Amaro, Crème de Cassis, and Benedictine. It tasted much like a Manhattan and was an excellent cocktail. Just her taste profile.

We then moved on to the second round of cocktails. I ordered a Red Eye To Rome, a cocktail made with Michter’s American Whiskey, coffee infused Campari, coconut, vanilla and lime. It was a very refreshing cocktail that I enjoyed quite a bit. Rosemary had the Femme Du Monde, made with Michter’s Rye, Foro Amaro, Campari, pecan, and chocolate bitters. She loved this cocktail that reminded her of a Black Manhattan, but not quite. I think this was her favorite drink of the day. Much to Rosemary’s dismay, I ordered one more cocktail. We had decided not to over indulge but I saw this cocktail and decided we needed to at least sample it. It is the Color Me Clover made with Farmer’s Organic Gin, Foro dry vermouth, lemon, blackberry, black pepper, and egg white. The pepper is used as a garnish and does add a unique taste to the cocktail. It was excellent but I did not finish it to keep Rosemary happy.

The other cocktails on the menu include Life in Pink, made with Farmer’s Gin, Foro Amaro, lemon, pepita orgeat, cherry, black walnut and bitters. Next is While You’re Sleeping, I’m Dreaming made with Marti Plata Rum, Foro Roso vermouth, lime, honey, plum, vanilla, browned butter, and citrus tonic. Lastly there the From Dusk ‘Til Dawn, made with Los Siete Misterios Doba-Yej, Faretti Chocolate Biscotti, coffee, Freso Chile, Poblano Chile and a rice wash. All three of these cocktails look good and I will try them at a later date.

The Bar at Fort Nelson is an outstanding and creative cocktail bar. The mixologists are all very talented and the service is excellent. Rosemary and I love going there for a drink or two when we get a chance. It was the perfect place to start her birthday celebration and we look forward to going back in the future.
