Once again, Michter’s Distillery has produced our Whiskey of the Month. Michter’s constantly produces excellent whiskey and this year’s Bomberger’s is no exception. It barely beat out the 2026 Shenk’s Sour Mash for the honors this month. This year’s Bomberger’s Bourbon is aged in Chinquapin and Hungarian oak barrels, and both types of oak were air dried for three years and the barrels were deeply toasted and charred. This gave the whiskey a rich, sweet flavor that we really loved. Matt and I sat down to taste this Bourbon the other day and here are our tasting notes.
Bomberger’s Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, caramel, apples, cardamom, ginger and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, apples, pears, rosewater, cardamom and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, caramel, apples, cardamom, ginger and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and blackberries and cinnamon come out to join the party. Tasted with a pecan and dark chocolate and allspice come forward.
- Matt: Caramel, pears, lemon zest, cinnamon and oak wood. The dried cranberry added cardamom spice. The pecan added dark chocolate and peanut to the flavor.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, orange zest and cardamom spice. The dried cranberry made the finish long with lingering blackberry. The pecan made the finish very long with oak wood, cinnamon, dark chocolate and lingering blackberry.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and cinnamon. The dried cranberry made the finish long and added cardamom spice to the finish. The pecan made the finish very long with oak wood, chocolate and cinnamon.
I would pair this fine Bourbon with a My Father The Judge cigar. I think the rich vanilla and chocolate in the smoke would pair well with the sweet flavors of the Bourbon.
