Pursuit United is a bottling company located on Main Street in Louisville. I have not visited their location, but I understand they have a cocktail bar featuring their whiskeys. I gave this bottle to Matt for our Christmas video on YouTube and we both enjoyed it. For a three year old whiskey, it has a lot of flavor and I suspect that there is a lot of older whiskey in the bottle. Here are our tasting notes.
Pursuit United Rye Whiskey
Proof: 108
Age: Three Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Rye grass, vanilla, pears, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Rye grass, caramel, cherry, nutmeg and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Rye grass, vanilla, pears, cinnamon, ginger and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the pear and cinnamon are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and citrus and black pepper come out to join the party.
- Matt: Rye grass, caramel, cherry, lemon zest, cardamom, red pepper flakes and oak wood. The dried cranberry enhanced the caramel. The pecan brought out notes of blackberry and ginger.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood and ginger spice. The dried cranberry made the finish long with oak wood and cinnamon. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak wood and black pepper.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and red pepper flakes. The dried cranberry added lemon zest to the finish. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak wood and ginger spice.
I would pair this rye whiskey with a cigar that has a lot of vanilla and cedar spice in the smoke. I would reach for a NUB Habano cigar.
