Last spring I visited the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience and purchased this bottle. It has been on the table waiting to be reviewed for several months now and Matt and I finally opened it and tasted it for review. I regret waiting this long to do a review because it is an excellent Bourbon. Here are our tasting notes.
Evan Williams 1783 Bourbon – American Hero Edition 2024
Proof: 90
Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, wild berries, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, dates, hot pepper jelly and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, raspberries, blackberries, cardamom spice and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and caramel and apples come out in the flavor. Tasted with a pecan and a rich buttered caramel and orange zest come out with lots of oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, lemon zest, red pepper and oak. The dried cranberry added a note of cherries. The pecan made the vanilla a rich buttered caramel.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, cardamom and lingering berry notes. The dried cranberry added caramel and apple to the finish. The pecan made the finish long and dry with oak wood and lingering caramel.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and red pepper. The dried cranberry added some lingering vanilla. The pecan added some lingering caramel.
I would pair this fine Bourbon with a NUB Habano wrapper cigar. The cedar spice and vanilla in the smoke would pair well with the vanilla and spice in the Bourbon.
