The other day I attended a bottle release for the Jackson Purchase Distillery in Fulton County, Kentucky. Details of the Jackson Purchase Bourbon can be found in my blog about the event. They gifted me with a bottle of their Full Proof Bourbon and Matt and I sat down to taste it the other day. Here are our tasting notes.

Jackson Purchase Full Proof Bourbon

Proof: 117.8

Age: No Age Statement

Nose:

  • Mike: Vanilla, citrus baking spices and oak wood.
  • Matt: Vanilla, dates, oak and pine woods.

Taste:

  • Mike: Vanilla, orange zest, cinnamon and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and black pepper spice comes forward. Tasted with a pecan and ginger and floral white pepper come out.
  • Matt: Vanilla, dates raspberries, oak and pine woods. The dried cranberry enhanced the raspberry and added sweet plantain to the flavor. The pecan brought out caramel and ripe apple.

Finish:

  • Mike: Medium long with oak wood, cinnamon spice and lingering orange zest. The dried cranberry made the finish dry with oak wood and black pepper. The pecan made the finish very long and dry with oak wood and white pepper.
  • Matt: Medium long with oak wood, vanilla and lingering raspberry. The dried cranberry made the finish very fruity with raspberry and oak wood. The pecan made the finish longer with oak wood, apple and a hint of caramel.

I would pair this fine Bourbon with a NUB Maduro cigar. I think the rich vanilla and tobacco in the smoke would enhance the vanilla in the Bourbon.
