The other day, Rosemary and I stopped in at the Peerless Distillery. I love their whiskeys with their low barrel entry proof of 107 and the fact that they bottle all of their whiskeys at cask strength. We picked up a bottle of their second batch of toasted oak finished Bourbon and I am glad we did. It is excellent whiskey and Matt and I sat down to taste it the other day and loved it. We decided to place it in a blind tasting for whiskey of the month and it won against some top competition. Here are our tasting notes for this fine Bourbon.
Peerless Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon

Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Caramel, chocolate, a hint of spice and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, chocolate, honeysuckle, a hint of nuttiness and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Caramel, chocolate, banana, cinnamon and oak. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the chocolate and cinnamon are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and the flavor is chocolate covered banana with a hint of apple and oak.
- Matt: Chocolate, caramel, honey, peanut butter, cardamom spice and oak wood. The dried cranberry enhanced the chocolate, honey and cardamom. The pecan added some lemon zest to the flavor.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, chocolate and cinnamon. The dried cranberry made the finish long and spicy with oak wood and cinnamon red hot candy. The pecan made the finish very long with oak wood, chocolate and lingering fruit notes.
- Matt: Medium long with oak and chocolate. The dried cranberry added a note of toasted bread to the finish. The pecan added some lemon zest to the finish.
I would pair this whiskey with a My Father The Judge cigar. The chocolate and dried fruit in the smoke would pair well with the chocolate and fruit in the Bourbon.
