This Bourbon is distilled and bottled by the Glenns Creek Distillery, located near Millville, Kentucky at the site of the former Old Crow Distillery. The distiller uses a pot still to make this very small batch Bourbon. I recently visited the distillery and liked what I tasted and purchased a bottle. Matt and I sat down and tasted it recently and here are our tasting notes.
Glenns Creek OCD #5 Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
Proof: 105
Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, coffee, chocolate, a hint of spice and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, strawberry, cinnamon and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, coffee, raisins, pears, apples, nutmeg and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the vanilla becomes a rich French vanilla. Tasted with a pecan and the raisins and chocolate take center stage.
- Matt: Vanilla, burnt sugar, cinnamon and oak wood. The dried cranberry brought out a note of strawberries. The pecan enhanced the vanilla and cinnamon.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, nutmeg spice and lingering raisin notes. The dried cranberry made the finish longer with oak and nutmeg. The pecan made the finish medium long with oak, cinnamon, nutmeg and lingering pear.
- Matt: Medium long with oak and vanilla. The dried cranberry enhanced the vanilla. The pecan made the finish long with oak and cinnamon.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has lots of vanilla and chocolate in the smoke. I would reach for a My Father The Judge cigar.
