The other day, Bill McBrayer stopped by my house and dropped off this bottle of Old McBrayer Bonded Bourbon. Matt and I sat down and tasted it a few days later. We liked the Bourbon. It is a sourced Bourbon from Bardstown Bourbon Company that is aged for eight years. Here are our tasting notes.
Old McBrayer Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Proof: 100
Age: Eight Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, apples, citrus, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Marshmallows, cotton candy, blackberries, chocolate and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, apples, citrus, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry adds caramel and enhances the apple. Tasted with a pecan and the spice is reduced and chocolate and caramel come forward.
- Matt: Caramel, marshmallow, blackberries and oak wood. The dried cranberry adds a note of chocolate. The pecan adds chocolate and black pepper.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood and cinnamon. The dried cranberry made the finish long with oak wood, caramel and lingering cinnamon. The pecan made the finish very long with oak wood, chocolate and caramel.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and caramel. The dried cranberry added black pepper. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, black pepper and chocolate.
I would pair this fine Bourbon with a cigar that has a lot of dried fruit and vanilla in the smoke. I would reach for a My Father Blue cigar.
