The people at Blue Run sent me this bottle several months ago for review, but we are just now getting around to tasting it. It was not a high priority because Blue Run whiskeys are so expensive. While I appreciate the fact that they sent me a bottle, Matt and I prefer to review whiskeys that are more reasonably priced.
This is a mixture of Bourbon and Rye whiskeys. It is a whiskey with lots of fruit flavors and baking spice. It is a good whiskey but a bit expensive at $120 a bottle. Matt and I sat down and tasted it the other day and here are our tasting notes.
Blue Run Flight Series III Buck & Bush Kentucky Bourbon and Rye Whiskey

Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Rye grass, vanilla, wild berries, baking spice and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, cedar and oak woods.
Taste:
- Mike: Rye grass, vanilla, raspberries, blackberries, allspice, ginger and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and cherry fruit joins the party. Tasted with a pecan and notes of milk chocolate and white pepper come forward.
- Matt: Vanilla, white chocolate, prunes cedar and oak woods. The dried cranberry added mint notes to the taste. The pecan added cinnamon and black pepper.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood and berries. The dried cranberry made the finish longer with oak wood and raspberry. The pecan made the finish long with oak and white pepper.
- Matt: Medium long with oak, white chocolate and mint. The dried cranberry made the finish long with oak wood and mint. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, mint and black pepper.
I would pair this whiskey with a cigar that has vanilla and dried fruit in the smoke. I would reach for a My Father Blue cigar.
