Last week, Bardstown Bourbon Company released their new bottle design with this six year old bonded wheat recipe Bourbon. It is very good Bourbon and a sleek looking bottle design. The Bourbon has a mash bill of 68% corn, 20% wheat and 12% malted barley. Matt and I sat down and tasted it the other day and here are our tasting notes.
Bardstown Bourbon Company Bottled-in-Bond Wheat Recipe Bourbon
Proof: 100
Age: Six Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, cocoa, raisins and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, apples, lemon zest, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the apple and cinnamon are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and caramel and chocolate come out to join the party.
- Matt: Caramel, apples, hazelnuts, coffee and oak wood. The dried cranberry added cherries and enhanced the apple. The pecan added dates and enhanced the oak wood.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, vanilla and lemon zest. The dried cranberry added apple to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, chocolate and apple.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and hazelnut. The dried cranberry added apple to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, cocoa and hazelnut.
I would pair this fine Bourbon with a cigar that has rich vanilla and cedar spice in the smoke. I wold reach for a NUB Maduro cigar.
