Brother’s Bond is a company founded by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, two film makers who fell in love with Bourbon while filming in the South. They source barrels and blend them to make their whiskeys. They do a decent job at the blending, producing some good whiskeys. They sent me a bottle the other day of their four grain Bourbon. It has a mash bill of 60% corn, 11% rye, 21% wheat and 8% malted barley. Matt and I sat down to taste it and here are our tasting notes.
Brother’s Bond Four Grain Bourbon
Proof: 95
Age: Seven Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, cherries and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and green apple comes out in the flavor. Tasted with a pecan and the vanilla becomes a caramel.
- Matt: Caramel, molasses, toasted nuts, cherries and oak wood. The dried cranberry enhanced the caramel and molasses. The pecan enhanced the flavor of toasted nuts.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood and cinnamon. The dried cranberry added lingering green apple to the finish. The pecan made the finish long and dry with oak and cinnamon.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and toasted nuts. The dried cranberry added caramel to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, toasted nuts and molasses.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has rich tobacco and cedar spice in the smoke. I would reach for a NUB Habano cigar.
