The United States Army was created in the year 1775 when the conflict with Great Britain started. The next year, the United States declared independence and it became officially, the United States Army. It is a long heritage for the brave men and women who have served in those 250 years and Green River Distillery has honored them by creating this fine Bourbon whiskey. It is bottled at 111.1 proof to honor Veterans Day, November 11 (11-11). The distillery sent me a bottle for review and Matt and I sat down to taste it a few days ago. Here are our tasting notes.
Green River U.S. Army 250th Anniversary Bourbon

Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, wild berries, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, corn, roses, pepper and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, raspberries, blackberries, allspice and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and cinnamon comes forward. Tasted with a pecan and caramel, ginger, allspice and oak come forward.
- Matt: Caramel, peanut butter, cayenne pepper and oak wood. The dried cranberry enhanced the caramel and cayenne pepper. The pecan brought out a note of apple butter.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood and wild berries. The cranberry added cinnamon spice to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak and spice.
- Matt: Medium long with oak and cayenne pepper. The dried cranberry enhanced the pepper in the finish. The pecan made the finish long with lingering caramel.
I would pair this fine Bourbon with a fitting cigar – A Padron 1926 Series Maduro cigar. It has a lot of vanilla, cedar spice and dried fruit in the smoke that would pair well with the vanilla and spice in the Bourbon.
