This is the 2025 release and, as always, Michter’s ages and releases their whiskey for flavor and not just age. This whiskey is likely older than the 10 year old age statement. It is the quality Bourbon that we have come to expect from Michter’s Distillery. The whiskey in this bottle is still contract-distilled whiskey as Michter’s have not been distilling in Shively, Kentucky for ten years yet, but they have made this Bourbon to their own specifications, including the low barrel entry proof of 103. Matt and I agreed that it is the Whiskey of the Month for June 2025. Here are our tasting notes.
Michter’s 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon 2025
Proof: 94.4
Age: Ten Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Caramel, cherries, allspice, leather and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, oak, cinnamon and cherries.
Taste:
- Mike: Caramel, apples, cherries, allspice, leather and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and cinnamon and nutmeg spices came out to play. Tasted with a pecan and rich caramel, chocolate, allspice and oak come forward.
- Matt: Caramel, coffee with cream, cinnamon, with a hint of cardamom. The dried cranberry enhanced the caramel and cinnamon flavors and brought out citrus, cherry and cedar notes. The pecan brought out caramel, coffee, toffee and cherry.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, leather, allspice and lingering fruit. The dried cranberry kept the finish long with oak wood and lots of cinnamon. The pecan made the finish very long with oak wood, allspice and lingering caramel.
- Matt: Medium long with oak and cherries. The dried cranberry made the finish long with oak wood, cherry, lemon citrus and cinnamon. The pecan made the finish very long with oak wood, cherry, toffee and cigar smoke.
Many cigars would pair well with this complex Bourbon, but I would break out my favorite go-to, My Father The Judge, because the cigar’s chocolate notes will pair well with the caramel and cherry flavors of the whiskey. But I might also want to try something really special like a Fuente Opus X, a very different flavor profile. The Opus X has rich earthy tobacco and vanilla notes that would complement the whiskey.
