The other day, Rosemary and I were out and about and we stopped in at Angel’s Envy Distillery. I wanted to pick up a bottle of their new Bonded Bourbon. While in the gift shop, I also saw that they had a Triple Oak Cask Finished Bourbon, so I picked up a bottle of that, as well as the Bonded Bourbon. The Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon does not have an age statement on the bottle, but the Angel’s Envy Distillery website states that it is nearly six years old. The triple cask whiskey is Angel’s Envy Bourbon finished in Hungarian, Chinkapin and French oak casks. Matt and I sat down and tasted the bottles the other day and here are our tasting notes.
Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Proof:100
Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, apples, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, strawberry cream, oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: French vanilla, apples, cinnamon and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the apple and cinnamon are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and citrus notes come out with green apple and nutmeg.
- Matt: Vanilla, strawberry pie, red pepper and oak. The dried cranberry added some lemon notes. The pecan made the vanilla more of a caramel flavor.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak wood, vanilla and a hint of spice. The dried cranberry brought out the cinnamon spice in the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak wood, cinnamon and lingering citrus notes.
- Matt: Medium long with oak and red pepper. The dried cranberry made the finish longer. The pecan added lingering lemon.

I would pair these whiskeys with a cigar that has a lot of vanilla and cedar spice notes in the smoke. I would reach for a Rocky Patel Decade cigar.
