Glenns Creek SWheat Bourbon is a wheat recipe Bourbon that I tasted last month when Rosemary and I visited the distillery with our friends John and Carlene. I was impressed with the quality of this pot still distilled Bourbon so I purchased a bottle to take home for review. Matt and I sat down the other day and tasted it and here are our tasting notes.
Glenns Creek SWheat Bourbon
Proof: 115
Age: Four Years, Eight Months Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, pears, apples, baking spices, oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, apples, coffee beans, oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, pears, green apples, allspice and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the vanilla is enhanced and the spice becomes a cinnamon. Tasted with a pecan and the vanilla becomes a rich French vanilla and a citrus note comes out to join the party.
- Matt: Caramel, red apple, mint and oak wood with a creamy mouthfeel. The dried cranberry added a hint of citrus to the mix. The pecan brought out some dark chocolate.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with wood, allspice and lingering green apple. The dried cranberry made the finish longer with oak wood and cinnamon. The pecan made the finish long and dry with oak wood and allspice.
- Matt: Medium long with oak, coffee and lingering mint. The dried cranberry added some citrus notes to the finish. The pecan made the finish long with oak, caramel and apple.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that is rich in vanilla and tobacco in the smoke. I would reach for a NUB Maduro cigar.
