Once again, Michter’s has won our whiskey of the month with one of their whiskeys. They are consistently producing excellent whiskey and this Bourbon is no exception. This limited release of toasted barrel Bourbon comes out every few years and this bottle celebrates their tenth anniversary of releasing the toasted barrel Bourbon. They take their US 1 Small Batch Bourbon and fill heavily toasted, but not charred, new oak barrels. There is no age statement on the bottle and this whiskey was most likely distilled at their Shively, Kentucky distillery. It is a quality product that beat out a couple of other candidates for whiskey of the month. Matt and I sat down and tasted this Bourbon the other day and here are our tasting notes.
Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon

Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Caramel apples, citrus, baking spices, oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, citrus, baking spices and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Caramel toffee, green apple, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and French vanilla and butterscotch come forward. Tasted with a pecan and notes of dark chocolate come out and the cinnamon is enhanced.
- Matt: Caramel, butterscotch, citrus, cinnamon, nutmeg and oak wood. The dried cranberry brought forward the chocolate with leather and tobacco, but reduced the citrus note. The pecan brought out peanut butter with raspberry jelly.
Finish:
- Mike: Long with oak and cinnamon with lingering caramel. The dried cranberry made the finish longer with lingering apple. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak, cinnamon and lingering chocolate.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood, chocolate and lingering citrus. The dried cranberry made the finish longer with oak, tobacco, leather and lingering chocolate. Long with peanut butter, raspberry and oak.
I would pair this very fine Bourbon with a My Father The Judge cigar. The chocolate notes in the smoke would pair well with the caramel and chocolate notes in the Bourbon.
