Baby Jane Bourbon is bottled at the Widow Jane Distillery in Brooklyn, New York. It was originally Bourbon made at the distillery and bottled at a young age of one or two years old and sold only in New York. Since they were purchased by Heaven Hill Distillery in Kentucky, they have increased their distribution and the brand is now a marriage of their New York Bourbon and Bourbon made in Kentucky and is now four years old. They are using the Widow Jane mash bill with the heirloom corn and using their New York water for bottling it. I recently received a bottle of this new expression and Matt and I sat down and tasted it. Here are our tasting notes.
Baby Jane Bourbon
Proof: 91
Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, marshmallows, dates and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, brown sugar, raisins and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, dates, cinnamon and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the vanilla becomes a rich French vanilla. Tasted with a pecan and the vanilla becomes a buttered caramel and citrus notes come out in the taste.
- Matt: Caramel, brown sugar, raisins and oak wood. The dried cranberry brought out notes of buttered popcorn. The pecan enhanced the caramel and buttered corn.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak, cinnamon and lingering date sweetness. The dried cranberry made the finish long with oak, vanilla and a hint of cinnamon. The pecan made the finish long and spicy with oak and cinnamon.
- Matt: Medium long and sweet with oak and brown sugar. The dried cranberry made the caramel a nice buttery caramel. The pecan brought out some chocolate in the finish.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has lots of vanilla and cedar spice in the smoke. I would reach for a NUB Habano cigar.
