I like the whiskeys being distilled at Hard Truth Distillery. This whiskey is their wheat recipe Bourbon, Bottled-in-Bond. It is an excellent Bourbon. I picked up a bottle of this whiskey when I visited the distillery in Nashville, Indiana, a couple of months ago and Matt and I sat down to taste it the other day. Here are our tasting notes.
Hard Truth Wheat Recipe Bourbon Bottled-in-Bond
Proof: 100
Age: Five Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, caramel, apples, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, burnt sugar, ginger and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, caramel, apples, cardamom and nutmeg, oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and wild berry flavor and allspice come out in the taste. Tasted with a pecan and chocolate and citrus notes join the party.
- Matt: Caramel, sugar, ginger and oak wood. The dried cranberry brought out some golden delicious apple notes. The pecan enhanced the oak and the ginger.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak and cardamom. The dried cranberry added some lingering notes of wild berries to the finish. The pecan made the finish long and dry with lots of oak and lingering citrus notes.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and ginger spice. The dried cranberry added some lingering apple notes. The pecan added some lingering caramel notes.
I would pair this fine Bourbon with a cigar that is rich in vanilla in the smoke. I would reach for a Rocky Patel Decade cigar.
