This Corn Whiskey was distilled by MB Roland in Pembroke, Kentucky. The mash bill has a recipe of 95% Christian County white corn and 5% malted barley. The whiskey was aged two years in used bourbon barrels. Rosemary and I visited the Distillery recently and picked up this bottle (and several others) and Matt and I sat down to taste it. Here are our tasting notes.
MB Roland Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey

Age: 2 years old
Nose:
- Mike: Corn, vanilla, hint of pepper and oak. Water helps bring out caramel.
- Matt: Corn, caramel, cocoa and cinnamon.
Taste:
- Mike: Corn, vanilla, berries, pepper spice and oak. Water brings out caramel. Tasting a dried cranberry reduces the pepper and adds more vanilla notes. Tasted with a pecan and the caramel and corn are enhanced with a hint of chocolate.
- Matt: Toasted corn, cinnamon and ripe apple. The dried cranberry enhanced corn and brought out stone fruit and red hot cinnamon flavors. The pecan emphasized notes of cocoa, ripe apples and cinnamon.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with lots of pepper and a hint of oak. The dried cranberry enhanced the berry fruit but there was still a lot of pepper. The pecan brought out pepper spice with caramel and chocolate.
- Matt: The finish was all cinnamon and oak. The dried cranberry didn’t bring much more, it was cinnamon and oak. The pecan brought out oak, cinnamon and tobacco in the finish.
I would pair this Corn whiskey with a NUB Habano cigar. The full bodied sweet cinnamon of the smoke should pair well with corn and vanilla flavors in the Corn Whiskey.
