Laws Whiskey House is a distillery in Denver, Colorado. This bottle was a gift to me from Maggie Kimberl. Matt and I sat down and tasted it recently and here are our tasting notes.
Laws Whiskey House Four Grain Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Proof: 100
Age; Eight Years Old
Nose:
- Mike: Vanilla, pears, baking spices and oak wood.
- Matt: Caramel, honey, leather and oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Caramel, pears, orange zest, baking spices and oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the pear comes forward and cinnamon spice emerges from the baking spices. Tasted with a pecan and the oak is enhanced and the spice becomes a black pepper.
- Matt: Burnt caramel, honey, chocolate syrup and oak wood. The dried cranberry added a buttered pecan note to the flavor. The pecan brought out flavors of blood orange and red hot cinnamon candy.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak and spice. The dried cranberry made the finish longer with oak and cinnamon spice. The pecan made the finish dry with oak and pepper spice.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood and chocolate. The dried cranberry added some notes of nuts and leather. The pecan made the finish dry with oak, leather and chocolate.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has rich vanilla and earthy tobacco notes in the smoke. I would reach for a NUB Maduro cigar as my first choice, but may want an Oliva Series V Maduro.
