Monk’s Road Wheated Bourbon is the product of the Log Still Distillery founded a couple of years ago the old J.W. Dant site in Gethsemane, Kentucky. The distillery founders are J.W. “Wally” Dant along with his cousins, Lynne E. and Charles D. Dant. The distillery is new so the whiskey in this bottle was sourced for another distillery. It is very good Bourbon. Matt and I sat down and reviewed it and here are our tasting notes.
Monk’s Road Wheated Bourbon

Age: No Age Statement
Nose:
- Mike: Very light nose. Vanilla with a hint of fruit and oak wood.
- Matt: Vanilla, butter cream, plums or raisins, oak wood.
Taste:
- Mike: Vanilla, corn, apples, nutmeg and cinnamon, oak wood. Tasted with a dried cranberry and the apple and cinnamon are enhanced. Tasted with a pecan and the vanilla becomes caramel with a hint of chocolate.
- Matt: Vanilla cream, cherry, coriander spice and oak wood. The dried cranberry made the fruit more of a plum with the spice becoming peppery spice. Tasted with a pecan brought out notes of white chocolate, ripe apples and peppery spice.
Finish:
- Mike: Medium long with oak and spice. The dried cranberry enhanced the cinnamon spice in the finish. The pecan made the finish longer with lots of oak wood with lingering notes of chocolate.
- Matt: Medium long with oak wood, coriander and pepper spice. The dried cranberry brought out lingering plum sweetness in the finish. The pecan made the finish longer with oak wood lingering chocolate and pepper spice.
I would pair this Bourbon with a cigar that has lots of vanilla and rich tobacco flavor in the smoke. I would reach for a My Father La Opulenia cigar.
